Recognising Impactful Leaders

Nominations are now closed.
Congratulations to the winners!

Leadership that elevates humanity

These awards honour the exceptional leaders of Australia and New Zealand that make a real difference and celebrate what great leadership can accomplish. Shining a light on the impact of inspiring leaders helps further our mission to elevate the conscious practice of leadership.

Impact through leadership – Stewarding the planet

These awards are all about looking to the bigger picture of the impact leadership can achieve, and the environmental cause is one close to all our hearts. To further our mission of stewarding the planet, Leadership Circle have teamed up with Conservation International to support two vital projects: Empowering the Noke Koi tribe in the Brazilian Amazon and Restoring mangrove forests in Costa Rica. Together, let’s lead by example, make a tangible impact, and fulfil our responsibility as stewards of this beautiful planet. Learn more about what we’re doing and how you can help too.

What is exceptional leadership? +

Exceptional leaders are not always the loudest ones, nor the ones driven by ego. They listen deeply and hear the possibility of a different future. They build strong relationships, lift up others, inspire, and lead with courage. They forge different paths and build new narratives.

Exceptional leaders not only change the course of their organisations and the people in it… Exceptional leaders change the course of history.

How do we measure exceptional leadership? +

We measure exceptional leadership through the effect leaders have on the people they lead. An indication of exceptional leadership, therefore, is how that leader shows up on the Leadership Circle Profile (LCP) according to their aggregated group of evaluators.

The Leadership Circle Profile (below) is a 360° assessment that measures leadership behaviour at various stages of development and the extent to which it is reactive versus creative. It measures the perspectives of both the leader and their colleagues, clients and customers. The creative stage reflects leaders coming from an outcome-creating mindset, and correlates with higher leadership effectiveness.

All LCP data is confidential, so we will only check and take account of nominees’ overall aggregate scores. We will use those overall scores, combined with information from the leader’s nomination form about the leader and their work, to select those for our awards shortlist. For more information on the awards process, nominations, shortlisting, and judging, please see Frequently Asked Questions below.

Rebecca was unwavering in her commitment to investing in leadership and culture development from the beginning.  Even when the operational demands on the Leadership Team were extreme – from the establishment of a new Governance Structure and new board, to forming a new Executive Team, to responding to disastrous bushfires, then COVID, then a couple of Royal Commissions, changes in Government and many more demands over and above ‘business as usual’ in a complex rural health system – Rebecca remained resolute in her commitment to carving out time and space for the Executive Team to get together and focus on developing their collective leadership capacity to live their values and nourish their desired culture.  Above all else, I think it was this commitment to prioritising time and space to being intentional about their collective leadership development, which was fully supported by the Board, that made the difference.

At the time of the first LCP assessment in 2020 Charlotte was in her first role leading leaders in a large government department in New Zealand. From there she went on a significant personal and professional transformation. In Charlottes words “it was a high-pressure role with a lot of responsibility in a high-risk sector. On review, I felt the need to adopt a different leadership style and was keen to assert myself as a leader in control. This was worked to a degree but was exhausting and I imagine not a great experience for my reports. Through my involvement with Leadership in Practice I learned to truly lean into myself. Who I am, where I come from and what I want to be. This included some challenging shadow work that helped me dial back on controlling and progress in an authentic and sustainable way that had a direct impact on my ability to achieve. Earlier this year I was appointed to my first tier 3 role; a senior leadership role in the department. With the growth that I have managed to achieve with the guidance of Michelle as my coach, this has been an exciting and smooth transition. This hasn’t been a year without challenge but by unlocking all parts of myself and understanding the lens I bring to every situation‚ I am able to approach things with clarity and confidence. It is no exaggeration to say that this experience changed my life. I am a better, happier person and a much more effective leader. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to be a part of something so transformational.”

Why the Leadership Circle Profile Matters

The Leadership Circle Profile puts leaders in touch with what is working, what is not, and why. A leader’s Self Score (bold line) and their raters’ Aggregate Score (green shading) demonstrate where a leader stands with their peers, as well as how they compare to our global leadership database. The higher the scores in creative dimensions, the more effective the leader. Therefore, LCP results play an important role in helping to determine Leadership Circle Awards recipients.

Where did you come up with the particular leadership competencies you measure?

Extensive research of the major streams of leadership and psychology literature over the last century. There is broad agreement on the stance and the competencies that give rise to effective leadership. Visit our White Paper page for more information.

No. Details of LCP results are confidential, we will not access specific LCP data. We will only cross-check the overall score to see if the leader was amongst the most highly rated profiles.
