What are the Different Types of ICF CCEUs?
CCEUs are awarded in two primary categories, as well as subsequent areas of focus within those broader categories.
Core Competencies: This category encompasses supplemental and continuing coach education that directly relates to or expands upon the ICF Core Competencies, such as communicating effectively, creating awareness, cultivating learning and growth, and demonstrating ethical practice.
Ethics:
Ethics CCEUs fall within the category of Core Competency and are centered around the ethical standards set forth by the ICF such as demonstrating personal integrity, upholding client confidentiality, and referring clients to other support professionals as needed. Regardless of credential, all ICF Credential-holders must earn 3 Core Competency CCEUs in the area of Ethics to be eligible to renew their credential. The ICF has developed a Free Ethics CCE Course to help credential-holders satisfy this requirement.
Mentor Coaching:
CCEUs obtained through mentor coaching are considered Core Competency CCEUs. Mentor coaching involves being on the receiving end of a coaching session facilitated by a fellow ICF credential holder. Not only does this encourage personal development but it also allows the recipient to benefit from observing the coaching skills and techniques demonstrated by their mentor. ACC credential holders are required to receive 10 hours of mentor coaching to satisfy ACC renewal requirements.
Resource Development: This category includes education in skills that contribute to a coach’s professional development that falls outside the ICF Core Competencies, such as coaching tools or assessments, business building, or self-study materials to help you grow as a coach.
